Morakat slams Taiwan

Blog: Snarky Tofu - 9 August 2009

By: Joshua Samuel Brown

Just a quick post to let anybody know that most of typhoon Morakat's force was in the southern half of the island. Taipei had wind and rain, and I saw plenty of tree branches down on my various and ill considered rides about the city on Friday and Saturday. The reservoirs up north that had been at near-drought levels just last week are all overflowing, which, in the balance, is a good thing.

Down south it's a different kettle of fish. Since I'm not on the ground there, I'll try to embed some videos taken of the damage. If the embedding doesn't work, you'll have to click out.

There's a good picture essay at BBC News

Anyway, very serious stuff. Will keep you posted.
