Introducing Inland From Selçuk
If you tire of Selçuk's coastal charms head 150km (95mi) or so inland to the wondrous city of Pamukkale. This unique landscape of travertine terraces and mineral springs has been on the tourist trail since the Phrygians came here for the waters in the third century BC. On top of the site are the ruins of Hierapolis, remains of the Roman city which include a theatre. If Roman rubble is your thing, head southwest from Pamukkale to the stunning ruins of Afrodisias, built to honour Aphrodite. Far less crowded than Pamukkale or Ephesus the site contains a beautifully preserved theatre and stadium.Advertisement
