after the mini stopover at iceland, we took off for the british isles and arrived in glasgow in the evening. our accommodations for the night, travelodge, was oddly positioned right next to an extreme sports megacomplex called xscape. xscape features an indoor ski slope, zip line and aerial obstacle course, rock climbing wall, and this free fall thing with fans to prevent sudden sure death. i really wanted to try it. we were also attracted to the novelty of the indoor snowboarding but decided that paying 15 pounds for one hour on a bunny slope was not worth it. the next morning we took the train to edinburgh to pick up a cello that i would be playing for h's wedding. yet another train to inverness, but our journey was far from over. we made our way to the rental car (a long, tiring walk with a backpack and cello in tow), and we were off to kyle of lochalsh.
the drive took us past the infamous loch ness, where nessie the monster lurks. we found her!
we continued further west and north. have you ever seen something so beautiful that it makes your heart ache? that's how i felt as we drove that lonely road, surrounded by birch and pine, lush green mountains, and sparkling waterfalls. the rain poured as night fell, and we arrived at our lovely b&b in dornie.
current location: le meridien albergo gallia, milano, italy.
