Hikone Castle

Hikone Castle has to be one of my favorites castles I’ve visited in Japan. It’s certainly one of the most popular castles to the Japanese people, a 2 hour line to see the inside proved that.
It sits above the town of Hikone overlooking the largest lake in Japan called Lake Biwa. A museum with an old Japanese house and gardens can be enjoyed also.
When the Meiji era began in 1868, many castles were scheduled to be dismantled, and only a request from the emperor himself, touring the area, kept Hikone Castle intact. Today it remains one of the oldest original-construction castles in Japan.
