Rio de Janeiro: Oh my GOD-AVOCADO, Shrimp, Okra and Coconut

When I went to the grocery store in Rio, I decide to buy all the fruits I didn't recognize. What a joy to realize that so many new fruits would enrich my life! I picked up what looked like a gargantuan avocado, but way, WAY to big to ever be an avocado. It was the size (but not the shape, mind you) of a small watermelon. The next morning I woke up, took my mystery fruit out of the fridge, and cut it open. It was an AVOCADO, the biggest one on record in my life (the avocado of my life). I ate maybe 1/4th of it for breakfast, unable to fully process the significance of the creamy flesh.

Sunday took me to the hippie market, where I had several croqueta-like sweets made of coconut and tapioca. I die for that bit of chewiness in a food. It is what I loved about sticky rice in Vietnam. I also had this incredible dish whose name I have completely forgotten. It consisted of a freshly fried corn muffin cut in half, smothered in an okra sauce and topped with crunchy little shrimp.
