There is so much to do and see in Barcelona that the idea of taking a day trip from Barcelona seems a crazy idea. Why visit outside of Barcelona when there is just so much to do and see in the city itself, including all of Gaudi's attractions, the beach and the shopping. Many people though love to get out of the big city for a day and their are in fact some good options.

Sitges - Looking at the first of the best of the day trips options from Barcelona, Sitges is in fact said to be the most expensive place to live in the whole of Spain. Day trip to SitgesWith a high percentage of million Euro homes, a coastal location and within commuting distance of central Barcelona, the appeal is clear.

Sitges is a small town and has a couple of excellent beaches and excellent community spirit. The town is especially popular with gay visitors and is considered the gay capital of Spain. The town also though is enjoyed by a number of families and straight couples and many popular festivals bring people in their numbers to Sitges.

Some events to watch out for:
  • Sitges Carnival (Normally February annually)
  • Catalonia International Film Festival
  • Annual Tango Festival

There are numerous things going on in Sitges and if only for the beaches and atmosphere, it is worth visiting. From Barcelona it is a direct 30-40 train ride.
