Many of you who read this blog I know are thinking of moving to Barcelona, Spain and it is certainly something that can be done. The truth certainly is that getting a job in Barcelona as a non native has never been easy and now it is even harder, with the recession. Unemployment is hWorking in Barcelonaigh in Spain and wages are also low.

It can work though. You can get a job in Barcelona and many friends are working in Barcelona as we speak. Some jobs in fact, such as programming are often always sought. I have friends who run an I.T. and web design company in Barcelona who have in fact always struggled to find a programmer to work with them in Barcelona.

The most common job is to teach English and this is the most realistic option and it will at least give you the time to get to know your way around the city and to make other contacts for finding work.

What I would advise is:
  1. Do everything you can to learn as much Spanish or Catalan as you can before moving to Barcelona.
  2. Try and ensure you have money behind you. It takes time to find work and to get setup in Barcelona.
  3. Take advantage of any contacts and network as hard as possible, to try and find an opportunity for work.
