In case you are wondering why we are posing with an imaginary phone each – it’s because the Kukup resort is called ‘Hello Leisure Resort’ so we are “hello-ing” with a phone.

Getting to Kukup, Pontian, Johor
Kukup is a small fishing village located about 40 kilometres southwest of Johor Bahru, in the district of Pontian, Johor, on the Strait of Malacca in Malaysia. We had arranged for a 13-seater mini-bus to pick us up from Singapore to Kukup direct. Although the bus was quite packed (we had exactly 13 people), the 1-hour+ ride was comfortable.

As the pathways in the Kukup Fishing Village are quite narrow, the bus dropped us off right outside the village and we took a 10-minute slow walk to our Hello Resort Chalet. The weather was quite hot so bring along sunglasses and umbrellas if you can’t bear walking under the sun for 10 minutes.

There are many other chalets in this Kukup fishing village – some of them are located even further (20-30 minute walk). There are even porterage services for guests staying deep inside the village, with lots of luggages.

Our Hello Leisure Resort – quite a big chalet compared to the other houses around the area. We occupied the entire ground floor while the owners – Mr Hello and his family occupied the second floor.

You can contact either their Singapore office (Mr Alex Toh) or their Malaysia office (Mr Hello) – imagine calling him and saying “Hello, may i speak to Mr Hello“. We did not have to face this dilemma since we emailed the Singapore office ![]()
