To conclude our 17-day long Central Europe trip, I will provide you with a quick showcase of London icons.  Starting with Big Ben -> Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north-eastern end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and is often extended to refer to the clock or the clock tower as well.

The Merlin Entertainments London Eye (known more simply as The London Eye, and also known as the Millennium Wheel), is the largest Ferris wheel in Europe (at a height of 135 metres), and has become the most popular paid tourist attraction in the UK, visited by over three million people in one year.

The red telephone boxes that are everywhere in London.  The color red was chosen for these boxes so that they are easy to spot – and indeed that had worked very well.

The often mistaken as “London Bridge” in the nursery rhymes ‘London Bridge is falling down” due to its drawbridge.  This bridge is actually known as “Tower Bridge”.

How can we forget the Bobbies from the British Metropolitan Police Force.  Policemen became to be known as ” bobbies” after Robert Peel who set up the first organised police service in London, 1829.  Bobby is short for Robert.
