I was hoping to use if for hiking as well as kayaking but the material is not stiff enough for any wind. The rim just bends.
The material is perfect for water of course and any splash seems to be quickly evaporated.
Light Hat good wicking

This hat keeps your head cool with wind flow through and sweat wicking. Great for those warm summer hikes. Very light.
Good Light Hat

This hat does not withstand blustery wind/rain very well. The brim is too soft and does not hold it's shape. It does excel as a sunshade which was what I bought it for. I took it to SE Asia during the summer months where it proved very useful due to the light material that breathes well.

Took this one to Hawaii. Turned out to be a great choice. If you want sun protection this ones for you.
