Montrail Shoes Women's Namche Hiking Shoe Montrail Shoes Women's Namche Hiking Shoe

Don't judge a book by its cover or a shoe for that matter especially when it comes to the Montrail Namche Hiking Shoe for Women. The Namche is supportive enough to be a hiking boot giving you a snug fit around the arch and heel and enough lateral rigidity to control your steps when traversing a scree slope on the North side of South Sister but has the cushion and lightweight attributes of a trail runner. The large toe box will save your toenails as you descend back to the trailhead and the mono-filament mesh helps to keep you feet cool throughout the day. This shoe runs small order 1/2 size larger than normal.

Incredibly comfy, but buy a full size up from normal size. Image: 5 Stars

I normally wear size 5 to 5 1/2 and have trouble finding small enough boots from other makers. The 6 1/2 in this boot (and other Montrail boots) is just about right. That said after a few days street wear to break in the high tops the first real use these got was a ten mile hike with moderate (1500 ft) rolling elevation gain and loss. No blisters or even hot spots; my feet were happy at the end of the day. They're feather light and very cool and airy--parts of the boot body are a mesh-like fabric. Great for warm/dry conditions though they do admit a bit of fine dust so you might want to carry a change of socks if trail conditions are very dusty. I wouldn't recommend them for wet conditions.

Something about the left arch Image: 2 Stars

Definitely buy up 1/2 size fits length perfectly then. I normally can be comfortable in most shoes I have a high arch and I don't have any real foot issues but the Namche's left arch seems to be placed further back in the shoe towards the heel. It caused some uncomfortableness right out of the box. I tested another pair of Namche's from Sierra Trading and got the same thing. Not sure what the issue is. Right shoe felt great!

To test out the ascent & descent qualities I hiked up a steep paved Grade & then ran down no prob. Then the real test was to use them for the hard long hot weekend hikes where I went up & down trails lined w/shale rocks & loose dirt. Then I climbed a couple of peaks & on one I had to scale a cliff face by slowly inching up using front sides & tips of the shoe anything to get some purchase the shoes never slipped & the grip was awesome. Went cross country through water & sagebrush & I never had any kind of problem. I read all the reviews & decided on a full size larger 'cause I like to wear heavy socks but I definitely would have been fine w/just a half size up. So if you're looking for a shoe to buy & then use immediately on any kind of terrain simply buy 1/2 size up & go out & enjoy!

They're quite comfortable but always get 1/2 size bigger.

I normally wear a 7 but buy up 1/2 size for athletic shoes. These are still too tight but I'm too lazy to send 'em back!
