Tour d’Afrique Preparation

I’m in Africa and about to start my stage of the Cairo to Cape Town Tour d’Afrique. I’ll be riding from Iringa in Tanzania to Lilongwe in Malawi.

My Tour d’Afrique training came to a sudden stop when I headed off to Laos for the month of February, although I did a bit of bike riding in Luang Prabang and Luang Nam Tha on rented bikes. At the beginning of March I flew to London, taking my bike with me. So for the next week I did some riding along the Thames and circuits of Richmond Common. The Richmond circuit is about 10km around and a popular London training ride.

Then I packed my bike back in its bag again and flew off to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Leaving the bike there Maureen I continued on to Zanzibar for a few days R&R before I start my big ride – Maureen is just coming to my starting point at Iringa to wave goodbye! On Zanzibar I managed to get a bit more riding in, on a single speed, fat-tyred rent-a-bike, ideal for cruising along the beach.
