Expense
Most expensive country overall - Iceland
Most expensive city - Tokyo
Most expensive cities in the US - New York or anywhere in Hawaii

I don't find San Francisco particularly expensive. Maybe for housing. But average prices in restaurants are much less in SF than NY. Beers and wine are cheaper as well

NYC
rooms are apparently expensive, but food and beer are cheap. Avoid midtown. Explore chinatown. If you pay more than $4 for a big yummy lunch in NYC you are a sucker.

Yes
I have nothing else to do as a traveler, except decipher where the most expensive cities are. You see, I have no wits about me, thus, if someone tells me I must pay 100USD for a hotel room, and another 100USD for a meal, I comply. I am just a no-mind. That is the way I like to travel.

Big Bucks....
Anything having to deal with Silicon Valley, around the San Fransisco Bay Area is foot per square foot, some of the most expensive areas in the U.S.
(Palo Alto, Los Altos).
Even Berkeley has been transformed into some sort of new age Hippie requiring a platinum American Express Card!

$$$
Most expensive country -- Finland
Most expensive city -- Helsinki, Finland
In the states, one can eat for real cheap in either NYC or SF, if you know where to look. Nothing's really that cheap in Alaska, though.

expensive
Are you talking about prices for a tourist (hotel, food, sights, entrtainment) or the cost of living in a city? They are two different things

THE ISLANDS AND ALASKA ARE THE ONLY PLACES I KNOW WHERE YOU PAY $6.00 FOR A GALLON OF MILK. YOU CAN TAKE IT FROM THERE.

Hawaii is expensive
I live in Honolulu. Our gasoline prices are the highest in the nation. Our milk prices are out of sight. The other day I went to Foodland and bought a potato...that's one (l) potato that weighed a little over 16 ozs. With the 4% tax added it came to $1.07!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hawaii
Why would you go to hawaii and buy milk or potatoes? I thought you wanted to take a vacation from Peoria. When in Hawaii, do as the hawaiians do. Youll be healthier too! Drink pineapple juice. Eat guava. Eat fish. Leave the fatso american food back in Peoria!

Japan

Japan must be the most expensive place I've been to. (Tokyo especially)

Stockholm ranks second and Helsinki somewhere about there.

In the US - New York, by far, then probably San Francisco.

Cheapest place I've been to- India but the sanitation is a different story!

in the US - New York - haven't been to Honolulu. Outside, either Geneva or London. Tough to say.
