Expedition to K2

Discover K2 - without the crampons

HYPOTHESIS: Discover an unknown part of the city by travelling to the grid reference K2 on a map.
APPARATUS: A grid-referenced map or atlas, transportation and a sense of adventure.
METHOD:
1. Open a map or atlas at random.
2. Find the grid-reference K2 on the page in front of you.
3. Journey to that location and undertake a methodical exploration of the cultural, gastronomic and aesthetic delights that you find there.

That might work - if my map didn't show (C)K2 (nearest I could get) as somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean! :)

Follow your path, and let people talk.

My map of Maryland doesn't have a K2 either. So if the expedition to K2 is really an expedition into nothingness, then that would call for meditation, not travel. What is the sound of traveling to a place that does not exist? Should I have another cup of coffee?

You do not want to explore K2 on this map.

Generate a random number and plug the coords into a GPS - go there.

reminds me of the Degree Confluence Project - the hunt of the planet's nodes to anyone loves playing around with his GPS a bit.
There is one confluence every 79th km (49th mile), the project defined 11,950 nodes after discounting some unapprovables (water, ice)
Once you were the first hitting such a point AND submitting a photo, you are in their annals. There are still many, so check this out

London City Airport and King George V Dock don't sound particularly interesting...

Will have to find another map

Just done exactly this, exploring K2 on the Milan Metropolitan map ... results will be published soon enough, but aside from the excitements found therein, there was something deeply relaxing and surprisingly satisfying about the day.

Having a plan but one that purely focussed on approximately 900msq of suburban Milan was very liberating. There was no expectation so everything was exciting ... can strenuously recommend exploring K2 to the world ... do it, take flags, name the high points, leave no tern unstoned ...

What do you want me to do: dress in drag and do the hula?

I convinced my brother to come with me to our local K2 in October, and while we didn't get to explore it well, (it was someone's private farmland) it was fun and random. I saw a lot of new areas of my city that I'd never seen before, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I played this (sort of) in a down day I had whilst in Zagreb, I chose the bottom left most square on my map and decided I should try and get to there by a mixture of memorising the map and asking directions, and not to use public transport. Luckily the square was Jarun lake, so directions weren't so hard but I did have to run through what looked like someone's farm house next to it to where I could have just gone round but alas I did not know and fell on my hands and knees in a puddle of mud down this innocent looking path, so I got what I deserved for the garden skipping.
