Great slang

Loved the post re "fresa" further down. So what other interesting slang words have you encountered (and a brief definition, por supuesto).

dioquis
I don't know if this is slang or a regionalism or what, but it is used to mean something that doesn't pay off or work out. Like if you planted a crop and didn't harvest anything: sembraste dioquis. If you went somewhere and came back emptyhanded: fuiste dioquis. You put a troll on TT and no one responded: puro dioquis.

Slang
"¡no me jodas!" is sort of a semi-polite way of saying don't f&%k with me. Allways said it with a smile on my face and usually a smile of the people I sald it to.

Esquintle
Means brat. Very common use in mexico. Origin from the Nahautl word Ixquintle or something like that, the small hairless dog kept by the Aztecs during preHispanic days...

Mex Slang
"diferencial": A shapely female behind.
"medir su aceite": "check her oil" or "getting it on"
"subir al guayabo":"climb the guava tree" or, again, "getting it on".
"aplicar inyeccion intrapiernosa": "give an intra-leg injection", you figure it out.
"lame-nalgas": "butt-licker" or brown-noser.
"muy-reata": "very-lariat", gutsy,ballsy (like me)
"torta de lana": rich chick, fresa.
"coneja":a women who is always knocked up.
"agringarse":to become gringofied
"se fixean flats": border slang for, you guessed it, "flat tires fixed here".
"piquiniqui":wow, is this is getting tough, "picnic".
"bicho":knucklehead
"paparrucha":fib, "white lie"
"Vete a la chingada":go get f@#cked

esquincle
was first explained to me as 'snot nosed kid.' A similar term is 'chiple' which we might translate as 'spoiled brat.' It comes from 'chipitl' which (I was told) means the child who is taken off the breast because another child has been born. Related to 'fresa,' and somewhat more dated, is 'cursi' meaning a spoiled young person with bourgois, material values. Buque should be 'buqui' if you're referring to esquincles (buque is a large ship). I've always heard 'de oquis' (instead of 'dioquis') meaning uselessly undertaken.

#6 is right except cursi is corny... escuincle (kid) is not mocoso (snot faced kid)...

there's so much lingo, you can't get it all in one thread...

if something "está perro" depending on the region, it means it's cool, or difficult,
similarly, "chido" is cool, great, "padre",
if you are a "cafre" you drive dangerously and fast,
a "lepe" is a kid, like "escuincle",
a "golfa", "guila", and "puta" is a whore or a prostitute, or "golfa" can also be just a girl who sleeps around,
a "gata" is a maid,
a "coyote" charges to help cross wetbacks to the us,
a "lepero" is a bad-mouth,
"joto" is a homosexual man,
"teporocho" is a drunk,
"aguafiestas" is a party pooper,
"choro" is a bs speech, mostly blabber, "chorero" is the one delivering it,
"no hay pex" or "no hay pedo" are literally farts, but they mean there's no problem, no worries, or "que pedo!" what a scare, or "que pedo?" whats the trouble?
"chela" is beer...

i'm tired already...

this discussion is evolving quite well
I might add that choro is also used as a synonym for diarrhea where I was... (sus frijoles me dieron choro).

it is funny that most of these words come to stick in your head, but as they were never learnt in the classroom, seeing them written for the first time seems quite peculiar...

"Cheves,Chavas, y Chivas": Beer, chicks, and some soccer team.
"alumbrado": "lit", drunk
"enchispado":a "sparky", happy drunk
"bien pedo": really, really drunk
"Gringolandia": the land of gringos, the USA (sarcastic)
"Estados Confundidos": again, the USA (sarcastic too)
"crema de whip": Whipped cream, in really bad border-ese.
"saina":sign (bad border slang)
"saina de neon": even worse border slang!

i've only heard three of those.... i'm a chilanga

oh yeah, "chilangolandia" the df, mexico city, land of the "chilango", mexico city habitant to the "provincianos", people living anywhere else in the country.

they hate us so much in other states, there's a famous saying "haga patria, mate un chilango", meaning be patriotic, or do something for your country, and kill a chilango.

drug slang
In the Sierra between Sinaloa and Chihuahua right now you see guys wearing baseball caps (cachuchas) with pictures of a rooster, a parrot, and a goat on them.
Rooster = un gallo = a joint
Parrot = prerico -> un pericaso = a nose full of anything snortable.
Goat = anything injected (I think this has something to do with the horn).
Cuerno de chiva (goat's horn) is also the slang term for an automatic rifle.
El chismoso (the gossip) is the spotter plane that looks for plantings of the local cash crop.
El voludo (the round one) is the helicopter that comes to spray the crop after the chismoso tells it where the crop is.
Los wachos (guachos? pronounced watchos) are the soldiers who are looking for the same crops.
