Must-see places in the US

You have me intrigued so I'll include a few of my favorites:Large city: Definately NYC..so much variety and history and culture!
An alpine meadow in the Spring anywhere along the slopes of Mt. Rainier...absolutely stunning with the huge volcano everpresent in the background!
Eastern border of Utah...Moab-Monument Valley...fabulous red rock formations which are all so different and colorful!
Fall hiking in the Eagle Cap Wilderness area of NE Oregon...with all the aspens and western larch changing colors...or Fall hiking in the Enchantment Lakes area of central Washington....
Coastal drive...I would extend your PCH part to include Oregon also...the coast of Washington is equally as beautiful and impressive but access is much to limited for most.
Instead of a walking stroll...perhaps a nice ferry ride away from and back into Seattle as the sun is setting down and seeing how beautiful that city really is... with snow-capped mountains on the east and west of Seattle and seeing how magnificent Mt. Rainier stands out against the skyline.

The coast of Maine up to New Brunswick
Flagstaff, south to Sedona (someone already said that but it's great!)
New Orleans' French Quarter
Walking from Santa Monica to Venice to see the demographic change, and the freaks
The Road to Hana on Maui
Sunset Boulevard from the coast to Sunset Junction in East Hollywood, a good slice of LA
near Blythe, California with miles of hot flat desert, almost NO countries in Europe have that kind of open space for hours

#28, I would suggest the train as opposed to the bus. Safer as well as cheaper, and you can drink the whole way :)My suggestions in no particular order...

Memphis during May
East TN during the fall
Canyon De Chelly, AZ (very close to Moab, real Navajo, real Anasazi Cliff Dwellings, beautiful canyon year round, and no over run with tourists)
Sedona, AZ
Death Valley
New Orleans, French Quarter as well as the Garden District
Florida Keys
Believe it or not southern Kentucy (Land Between the Lakes, Bowling Green, all sorts of caves and hills)
Also Believe it or not, northern Mississippi, lot of culture, blues greats all either came from there or stayed there (Robert Johnsen sold his soul at the crossroads in Clarksdale. Of course there is a McDonald's at the supposed one)

"Moab area, Utah: Redrock canyons, arches, the Colorado, hiking, biking, and a interesting town. The red desert literally beckons you to come out, play, and get lost. Truly, as Edward Abbey put it, the most beautiful place in the world."Excellent! I almost agree with you. Picking the most beautiful place is too tricky. Absolutely takes your breath away. Recommend it whenever I can.

Boston and New England in the summer.The Rocky mountains in the winter or summer.
South Florida and the Keys in January.
Spring in Virginia and DC.

Yellowstone National Park. Jaw-dropping.Jenny Lake, Grand Tetons Nat'l Park. You feel miniscule alongside the mountains and the lake. Being so far away from anything visually urban is uplifting and clears your mind.

The Petroglyph Nat'l Monument is a bunch of (mostly) crude scratchings on rocks in a location that really isn't all that awe-inspiring, not to me anyway. It wouldn't belong in a list of the top 1000 "must-sees" in the USA. I doubt it would make the top 50 in New Mexico. Maybe if you're really looking for someplace to go within a 20 minute drive or so from Albuquerque, it would almost qualify...40
Wow, I seriously must be the only one who enjoyed it. Nice view of Albuquerque. I would have figured people would go for that one over Kentucy any day. Again, have traveled all over, but haven't seen everything, but I persoanlly loved it, it was just a neat place. I really did like it, but you know, to each his own, so to have offended...41
Sunrise from the top of Cadillac Mountain, Acadia NP- First place in the USA that the sun hits, every morning...43
Add a drive through New Mexico, Abiqiui and surrounding areas, being from the East the desert just intrigued me. Sucky place to live but awesome for a road trip, and then add to that the whole state of Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park.And I'm gonna keep travelin'................
