Loi Krathong and Yi Peng 2013Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if someone could help me or point me in the right direction on when Yi peng and Loi Krathong are happening this year? (2013)
The official date for Loi Krathong seems to be 17th November...HOWEVER many sites and people have mentioned that it has been postponed until around the 28th due to someone of importance :s
I have no idea when Yi Peng occurs?
CAN ANYONE HELP?????

2The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced it was postponed to the following week out of respect for a senior monk who died, but soon after due to many tourist complaints they mostly retracted that statement. So it will be the weekend of November 16/17 as scheduled, although in Bangkok some of the TAT-sponsored events may be toned down a bit. Better still, get up to Chiang Mai which is Loy Krathong / Yi Peng City, and there is a massive release of lanterns to be held on the night of the 16th out at Mae Jo / Sansai on the edge of town. Very popular and very crowded! Otherwise in town at Thaphae Gate or along the river for the best of Loy Krathong.

When you say get there early, how early do you mean?
Looking at the schedule it looks like it will start at 1pm however the lantern release won't occur till about 6:30pm.
Would you advise that we get there before the whole thing say 12pm? Which will be a very hot and long day or would getting there at say 3-4pm still be ok?

7^Problem is there is almost no accommodation out there in Mae Jo. Better to base nearer in town and enjoy the other weekend festivities around Thaphae Gate and along the Ping river. But yeah, expect to wait a while for a ride back into CM on the 16th.
