VisaHello fellow travelers :)
Me and my friend are planning to travel to Algeria around the new year. We'd like to know if we need a visa (we're from Slovenia (EU)), and if, how much does it costs, and where can we get it.
We'd also like to know about the prices of hostels there (in average). Since we're on a low budget, we're looking for the cheapest ones.
And the last questions...how are the temeratures in that time? Does it get very cold?
Wish you all many good trips

1You need a visa (AFAIK). Algeria doesn't have an embassy in Slovenia so you'll have to research what Algerian embassy has Slovenia as part of their jurisdiction. It used to be their embassy in Budapest but they've opened an embassy in Zagreb so I don't know which one includes now Slovenia under its jurisdiction. Get in touch with any of them and ask them.

Algerian tourist visas do not come easy.
Normally to get a visa you must provide the algerian consulate with a letter of invitation. They also accept hotel bookings but this is not a very safe procedure, also this is expensive and duifficult to do in advance. They also ask for travel safety for the whole of your stay in Algeria. The cost of a tourist visa is about 60 euros and the travel security is also expensive. I payed 90 euros.
As for the timing, end of the year is not the best season because of cold nights but this is not a so bad timing either. So this is something you can manage.
Security situation is reasonably ok but fluctuates. If you are on a low budget dont count on visiting the Algerian sahara, there are many preconditions for that and so you will need money...
