9 Days in South/Central VietnamHello All,
I will be in South and Central Vietnam for about 9 days in early December 2013. I am hoping to spend 2-3 days in HCMC, 1-2 days touring Mekong Delta (possibly Islands in south/Long Beach/etc), then head north to Hoi An for 1-2 days, and Hue for 1-2 days. I fear this itinerary may be a little aggressive and not fully accounting for travel time. Thinking to use buses/trains on way north ... but may need to fly out of Hue ...
After Hue, I will be heading to Siem Reap/Angkar Wat.
Very curious to hear thoughts on the logistics of this itinerary.
Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts with this first time traveler to Vietnam.

2I agree the timing might be tight. You can do an easy day trip to Meekong from HMC to give yourself an extra day. Flying in/out Danang is a good option to save time as well. Also there is a nice beach in Hoi An so you can treat yourself to some beach time there or Nha Trang is another good option.
I just spent 30 days in Vietnam and loved every minute, a very affordable and accessible country to travel. I've got photos of each of your travel destinations and some tips at: http://jenniferkolbuc.com/category/asia/vietnam/.
Hope this is helpful for you!

5Thank you for all the responses. I've investigated further and agree that flying to Danang would make the most sense. Currently looking at itinerary along these lines
2 Days in HCMC, then drive south to Can Tho/Mekong Delta
3 Days in Mekong Delta (staying around Can Tho - w/in hour or two drive ... not trying for Long Beach or south/east Mekong Delta)- then drive back to HCMC and fly to Danang/Hoi An
2 Days in/around Hoi An - then drive up coast to Hue
2 Days in/around Hue
Fly out of Hue to Siem Reap
Definitely wish I had another week for this itinerary ... but hoping it allows me to see/experience much of best of south/central Vietnam

6Now trying to decide how to divide up approximately 9 days b/n Hue/Hoi An/Siem Reap.
2 days in Hue - Drive to Hoi An
2 days in Hoi An
Fly to Siem Reap
5 days in Siem Reap
Thinking I might want to take one SR day and move it to Hue/Hoi An ... I'm just concerned that Siem Reap will be full of tourists (in mid December) and that extra day in ruins will make the visit more relaxing/leisurely and less hit-or-miss weather-wise. On the other hand, so much to see/do in Central Vietnam.
Better to spend another day in Hue/HA?

8Great - Thanks! Looking at spending Day 3 or 4 doing a loop up through Beng Mealea/Koh Ker/Prea Vihear ... but concerned all 3 may be too ambitious. Lodging up there looks doable, but not sure how drivers would work. (If driver from Siem Reap goes home at the end of the day, how hard is it to find someone to drive remainder of the loop ... up to P.Vihear and then to Siem Reap?)
