Easter in PragueHi folks. Going to be in Europe for 3 months next year and I've got a rough itinerary planned, but I hadn't planned on booking anything prior to going. There is definitely a list of "must see" places that we are trying to fit in without too much backtracking, etc.
Anyway, the rough plan looks to have us in Prague for the Easter long weekend 2014. I was thinking of pre-booking just the accommodation in Prague so we aren't left high and dry. I am assuming that tons of people will be travelling around Europe at that time for city breaks, etc. I've been having a look at Prague accommodation and it appears that there is a VAST amount of it. Clearly, it's a very popular holiday destination.
My question is, has anybody been to Prague during Easter before and will we have trouble getting accommodation if we leave it until, say, a week prior? Also, are we a little mad going there at that time of year? Will it be way too busy to be enjoyable? Should we spend our time elsewhere for that long weekend and go to Prague just before or just after easter?

1Easter is difficult for accommodation everywhere in Europe, because it is a holiday for so many people. I'd book a while in advance wherever you go, as accommodation is difficult everywhere at such holidays. So I'd book well in advance wherever you'll be going. There is something to be said for being somewhere other than the most popular places at a public holiday. A great deal of CzR gets very few foreign tourists, so there are a lot of alternatives to be away from that weekend, where it won't be crowded even when it is relatively busy.

2Kym_n_James I live in the city center of Prague and was here at Easter. I wouldn't say it was busy (its far worse in the summer) in fact I'd say its a perfect time to visit as its generally sunny and there are normally festivities and events happening around the city. An Easter market in the old town square for example is quite nice. If you are worried about accommodation it might be worth looking into airbnb. i know quite a few people who found apartments to rent for their time here and was much cheaper and convenient than a hotel.
If you need any advice on anything just ask I know alot about Prague. I work in the tourism industry and advise people on booking trips to Prague. If I don't know the answer to your question I know many people who will! Good Luck on planning your trip!

We ended up just booking that part of the holiday in advance. We are now planning on meeting my partner's parents there, so figured we might as well lock that part of the holiday in. They wanted to meet us somewhere in Europe and since Easter is busy we decided to go kill two birds with one stone and book early. ;)
Plus I was looking at hostels and hotels and nearly everywhere had jacked their prices up 200-300% for that weekend! Bah!
We found a lovely 2 bedroom apartment on AirBNB for a bargain with great reviews. Can't wait! Thank you.
