Cuba family trip - where to go aside from Havana with nice beaches nearby? We are a family of three generations visiting Cuba this Christmas for my mom's 70th birthday. Her grandkids aged 5 and 7 will be there too. We want to spend about 5 days in Havana, but also want to spend time nearer a beach.
What places within a 4-5 hour drive from Havana are near nice beaches, aren't too resort-like (i.e., have local color and food), and are reasonably kid-friendly?
A few of us have already been to Trinidad, so are there other options that fit the bill?
And how easy is it to find a rental house that could fit a family of 7+ both in Havana and near a beach?

1Go to TripAdvisor and check out:
Villa Bacuranao, 15 km east of Centro Havana. Motel-like units so probably couldn't fit everybody into one, but quite inexpensive so would be easy enough to rent several units side by side.
Cubanacan Villa Tarara, 18 km east of Havana. Like suburban apartments, with beach close by but little else of interest.
Villa Los Pinos, 20 km east of Havana. Like suburban apartments, with beach close by but little else of interest in area.
These are all 12 to 20 km east of Havana, with Villa Los Pinos, at Playa Santa Maria, being the furthest out.

2You could also try Villa Tropico on Playa Jibacoa (about 2 hours). Although it is an AI it is very laid back and the "Villas" are in four room blocks so you could get two rooms side by side in one Villa or three rooms in one unit. It is spread out so you do not see a lot of of other tourists except at the pool areas. The food is basic Cuban buffet but the grounds are spread out and nice. Usually runs $65-85 per person all included. The young ones may get discounts.
