Good bookstores in Santiago, book recommendationsOnce upon a time, my Spanish was pretty fluent. Sadly right now it's horribly rusty, but still, I want to stop off in a good bookshop before I go home and have a browse, pick up a few things (depending on space in luggage!).
Any recommendations for interesting bookstores in Santiago? Perhaps independent or second-hand, or just in a really nice building?
I'm into fiction, photography, and the Pinochet-era and its aftermath.
If you've recently read anything particularly good by Chilean authors (fiction or non-fiction), I'd be happy to hear about that too (with all due respect to Isabel Allende, there must be more out there...).

4A few options for new books:
Qué Leo - three locations: Merced, Providencia and Apumanque mall.
Ulises - good selection, several locations around town
Contrapunto - good for books on architecture, lots of locations
Feria Chilena del Libro - traditional, good for calendars and books on Chile.
The traditional street for used books in Santiago is San Diego, around crossing with Santa Isabel, and you can sometimes find quite interesting books. I have never been very lucky there though.
I haven't been for over a year, so hopefully they haven't torn it down to put up an office building, but the Feria Permanente del Libro Usado, in the Galería Véneto, at Providencia 1114 (Manuel Montt is the closest metro station). About 20 little shops with mostly used books.
Then there are the Café Literario places which combine a café and a bookstore: Café Literario Bustamante (in the Bustamante park, Providencia) for me, the best of them, Café Literario Mosqueto at Mosqueto 440, the oldest of them, I think. There are a few others dotted around Providencia and the Lastarria area. Most are more about the coffee and cakes though some hold literary events as well.
That should keep you busy for a while.
