I guess Telstra/Bigpond is the only provider? ggggrrrrrrrrrr@how expensive that's gonna be
About five years ago, i worked on a roadhouse somewhere in the middle of the Nullabor plains, and the internet was existent but very, very slow. Does anybody know if it has gotten much better?

1Basically if your outside a town and they don't have satellite internet (rare) there is none.
Telstra Mobile coverage
If you know where you are going you can find out if they have broadband here

4The Internet in the Kimberley is generally not that bad- depending on the season. If it's wet season it drops out a lot. I had to email just about every cattle station up here recently as part of my job and got read replies from most of them, that doesn't give out an indication of speed but let's you know that it does work. Most of the stations rely on it to keep connected and run their business, so they try and keep it updated.
Mind you, there's a couple of black spots in the satellite coverage up here where you can't even get a sat phone to work.

5Thanks, guys !!
Redwhitewine - you're absolutely right - the families provide a lot of detailed information, including details of internet access.
Shevy - that makes intuitive sense - families which run large businesses and educate their children via the school of the air would make it their business to have some at least internet access, even if it's occasionally wonky.
PoppyG - that sucks (although I would have kind of anticipated that fact, anyhow), but thank you for letting me know. I really only need the net for study, anyhow, and I can probably bribe my Mum (who works FIFO) to download videos and crap like that, and then send it to me via post. Viva la snailmail!!
Bondrj- thanks for the links. It will be useful to get a less biased information about internet access before setting off anywhere.
