Long layover question.I am flying from the USA to India and on the return I have layover in Bangalore Karnataka India for 16 hours. I am traveling by myself and was wondering if I would be allowed to stay in the airport until my departure or is this area safe to for a female to travel in by themselves? Or should I look for another flight?

This OP is using TT as a travel agent having asked associated questions on the English site basically trying to save a few bucks.
She is unlikely to be a tourist - no tourist goes to Nagpur unless to watch the cricket. Since she has used the Spanish word for Auntie and hails from Florida, then her apparent Latin descent is unlikely to encourage an interesst in that most noble of games.
I, like you, enjoy showing off my knowledge of the country to potential tourists but this is OTT - just using up goodwill.

4Did not quite understand "layover" .For me a male from goa ,bangalore is very safe by day but not by night. Also traffic jams are a nightmare-it takes hours and hours to crawl thro the traffic.I have only transited thro Bangalore and stayed at a few cheap hotels there.India is nice after the monsoons -all green. You may be able to collect some handicrafts -but see that you are not cheated.16 hours is a short time so you would not be able to get out of bangalore.

The Tree dwellers have turned rather weird lately. Answering travellers questions seems to have gone out the window and it seems to have become a competition about who can be the most cynical.
So - Sixteen hours in transit? Nahh, find yourself a hotel in town or a different flight. Bangalore is an OK sort of towns and an evening in town is unlikely to be a bad experience. It is the sort of place where a women can go to a pub have a couple of drinks, chat with some bloke and not be asking to be raped. As always - be careful!

9I am not sure whats happening here but if I answer the base question then yes you can go out and do a bit and Bangalore is a safe city. Infact most of the places south of Maharashtra is safe for females. Though 16 hours is not a lot of time but you can do something rather than just getting bored at the airport terminal. For ideas on what to do in the given time you can visit www.wikitravel.org. My advice would be food and a few microbreweries or can even try the local indian wine which has its capital in Bangalore. Do consider the traffic problems while planning and i dont think it will be hard for you to find companion using couch surfer or other such websites.

Methinks you've got your knickers mightily twisted, for no good reason.
tia9900, Bangalore is safe, it's a pain to travel in though- lots of traffic.

11What time are you arriving and departing?
I take it as you're flying back to the US after the 16 hr layover- so you will have to re checkin and hence will not be allowed to enter the terminal much before check in starts.
The centre is 40 km from the airport, anywhere between 45 and 90 minutes depending on day (Sunday is quieter) and time of day.

12Tia is actually not my name it is only part but it stuck when the kids I use to nanny for could not say the n in my name. It was cute and it stuck.
Thank you for the answers. I would not leave the airpot but wasn't sure if or how long I would be allowed to sit there for. When I went to Hawaii they were not nice about letting you want in areas for long. This flight would take me next to Germ next bit a shorter time like eight hours. I have not booked it yet. Still foing back and forth a a couple tickets.
