backpacking for one yrhello, i will be traveling to japan cambodia thailand burma bhutan nepal then to India for 5 months!
would hostels be wise or are cheap hotels easy to come by. Would have to pre book hostel and wont know of exact dates of my arrivals. i am bringing a tent for trek camping; saving up to 18000 usd for this trip.
Is bank of america a good bank for travelers

1If you want to meet other people (i guess you are travelling alone?),then hostels would usually be a better bet...cheaper too,if you sleep in a dorm.
This varies from country to country and place to place...lots of hostels in (say) Tokyo, not many in Burma..where people tend to stay in cheap hotels.
You don't NEED to prebook anything, unless it is during a major festival for example..you will always find a place to stay (if you are not too fussy).

2Not many of these countries are good camping destinations...some of the mountain areas maybe, but in general very few people camp in SE Asia.Camping in Japan is pretty good outside of the cities..depends where and what exactly you want to do in Japan.
Budget depends on many things.Japan is expensive, and Bhutan is VERY expensive..the other destinations are all pretty cheap.
Don't know anything about Bank Of America..maybe someone else can help you on that....
I'd also recommend having a look at visa regulations for these places,if you have not already done so....

3Bank of America is probably not good to bank with. Most US banks have outrageous foreign transaction fees. I have a credit card with Capital One, and my debit card is with Capital One 360 (former ING Direct, an online-only bank). When they got acquired by CapOne, they dropped all foreign transaction fees (meaning no percentage taken out, no additional fee per withdrawal). I've been using the card for 3 months of travel with no issues. The only charges I've had were local banks charging to use their ATMs.
