CAIRO - Cheap safe local hotels in ATABA or DOWNTOWNHello Friends!
How are you?
Does anyone know of a really CHEAP BASIC ARAB HOTEL in ATABA or DOWNTOWN that is SAFE? I am thinking a room for around LE25 with bed, fan, wardrobe, table, window and electric plug. I know Arabic and like staying with the locals and guests from Upper Egypt. I am not bothered if the hotel is dirty but prefer no 'wildlife' in the bedding.
I always stay in such a hotel Downtown but haven't been able to contact them since the recent troubles. Friends in Cairo seem to think that this old couple have since retired and closed the hotel which is a shame.
I have always been curious about hotels in ATABA as it is a great favourite place of mine, full of noise and people, a really colourful part of Cairo. But, I know people told me that some hotels in ATABA are dangerous for THEFT or even prostitution is reported by some local people.
Thanks if anyone knows of such an LE25 place as my trip is quite long but the budget is quite short!
I just would like to have somewhere else to go if I arrive at my usual hotel and it is closed down.
Many thanks for your help.

My hotel is actually open. They had gone for a holiday due to the troubles. So I am back here now.
Thanks for that local hosts help.
I don't think that is for me. There may be too much socialising with the hosts from my experience as I would rather do my own thing.
In a couple of different countries I have been people were robbed as they slept with such Online host meeting.
One Swiss couple lost a great deal of their cameras, computers but mostly their world photo project files on hard drives during such a trip when I, luckily, had opted to stay at a backpacker lodge. They received ransom messages for their things and eventually they lost everything and the local police could not find the robbers.
I know this is very rare but I have seen it happen twice now in four years. So it is probably better to go to a safe hotel.
Many thanks for your help and time.
