Backpacking ideas (info)?A few hundred questions which I won't post of course. Heading to Yangon on Dec. 17th and out Jan. 20th 2014. Some basic questions. I see they do (and don't) have any ATM's in the country? True or False? How do I go about setting one up to be able to use? I don't deal with banks much. Heard that money USD have to be clean crisp bills... Are there any beach areas that have cheap bungaloo's or guesthouses? Saw the prices and the popular beach seems expensive. Anyone have any experience staying at beaches? What is a cheap guesthouse or place to stay in Yangon. (somewhat quiet but around some places of interest)... Well, for those who are now traveling in Myanmar please take a few notes that might be helpful for me. I'll be traveling alone. Thanks a lot.

1yes there are ATMS - for credit cards...simple enough to use, you just need a credit card (you get charged a local bank fee per withdrawal of 5,000 Kyat - about $6 US, and can withdraw up to 300,000 Kyat in one go).
Yes, $$ US notes have to be in good condition.
Stayed at Ngapali the year before last - paid $25 for a room with beachfront view at one of the 2 cheapest places (would cost more now). There are other beaches to stay at - others may post re: them.

4I stayed one night at the Motherland Inn 2 in Yangon. Not sure what your definition of cheap is, but you can get a single for $22 or double for $25. It comes with free breakfast and a free (2x per day) shuttle to the airport (which will save you about a $10 cab ride). There is also internet onsite (need to pay..i forget the cost, i think maybe a couple dollars for an hour) and an internet cafe down the block (30 cents an hour). It's pretty close to Yangon Central train station as well.
The staff was friendly and I enjoyed my short stay. For me the best part was the free early morning airport shuttle. I think it is designed to get you to the regular morning and evening Air Asia flights to Bangkok, so it may or may not be helpful, depending on your flight time.
