Birkenau question please. We have recently returned from a trip across Eastern Europe and on the way back stopped at Auschwitz and Birkenau. I am trying to find out what the building is just along from the entrance to Birkenau that looks very much like the original. Having looked on-line for quite awhile, I can't find anything about it. Is there anyone out there that can help? Thank you.

1Hard to figure out what you mean...the entrance gate is what is...
What building are you talking about?...

2Ok, opposite the main entrance is a small car park. As you leave it, there are two driving options away from the building. Turn right and it takes you past the main car park and back into Oswiecim. However, if you take the road straight on that runs alongside the camp on the left, about 200-300 metres or so further along on the right is a virtually identical building to the original. I should have stopped and looked more, but unfortunately didn't. When you are walking round the camp and go back along the railway line past the little truck, it's to the left and clearly visible.

5Nothing to the south. But across the street at the northeast corner of the camp, at 50.040759,19.181579, there is a somewhat similar building, with a cross on top. It is a church, Kosciol Matki Bozej Krolowej Polski. View on Google street view, using above coordinates.
