Staying at Koh Samet, but what about that oil spill?Hi :)
We're planning to stay a few days in October at Koh Samet since it's close to Bangkok. But we're concerned that the oil spill might ruin the experience...Anybody been on the island lately? Is it still still worth it or has the oil ruined it all?
We only have 2 weeks in Thailand, and we're spending the first week i Chiang Mai. Therefore we want to find a quiet and clean beach close to Bangkok for the last 3-5 days and Koh Samet seem initially perfect.

There are still chemicals in the water left over from the spill.....and of course there range is much larger than the original visible oil slick.

Seems like most of Koh Samet has been cleaned up now, except the beach at Ao Prao who is still struggling. But people who been there recently, says the Island is fine & no problems.
But oil spill or not; Koh Chang seem like a interesting choice.
Any idea how it's like there in mid-October? Much rain?

5Any updates? I'm planning a mid-late December trip to thailand and was considering the island.
The most recent news piece I saw, from late September, still worried about chemicals in the water, and of course marine and beach life....
I'd love to hear if the op ended up in koh Samet, and from anyone else who has more recent information.
