1st Night Denpasar & Surfing LombokHey guys,
we (couple) will arrive at denpasar airport at 11:45pm. We'd like to go straight to Ubud to sleep there. I heard at the airport there are just those pricy coupon-taxis. Is it possible to get another taxi outside the airport at this time?
After a couple days on bali we'll go to Lombok. Yet no idea where exactly. We want to learn surfing and maybe we'll climb mt. rinjani. Any advices about surf spots? Mabye Kuta?

1Well yes the surfing spot is supposed to be Kuta on Lombok and I went along to have a look. However when I was there recently the surfboard appeared to be latest fashion accessory and not something to use in the water. Everywhere people were riding on specially adapted motorbikes with their surfboard strapped to the side or just carrying them to somewhere but nobody was in the sea. We visited all the local beaches but saw no surfers. I'm not a surfer but there were plenty of waves, for goodness sakes I'd just seen people trying to surf on tiny waves in the Gilis.
So there you have it, everyone in Kuta appears to have a surfboard but it would seem simply for posing with it and defintely not using it for surfing.

3Bla: arriving at basically midnight you will get out of the airport about 1 in the morning or so. Just use the airport taxi which is on your left as soon as you leave the terminal building. It will be approximately rp 250,000 depending on where in Ubud you are staying. They are not that pricey compared to a metered taxi..many taxis don't want to go to Ubud at all because they have to come back empty... It's about an hour drive...although at 1 am could take you only 30 minutes if the driver goes really fast.
Hopefully you have your accomodation already booked because at that time of night Ubud is pretty much sewn up tight...
Have a great trip, do not forget to have good medical travel insurance and emergency evacuation coverage just in case.
