4 island day trip Nha TrangAvoid this depressing waste of a day! T
he 1st island they take you to is like a leper colony: You have to pay to get on the island, pay for a seat, pay for shade, pay for using filthy toilets, and you have nowhere to go until the boat returns. The coral is so polluted and bleached, there is little to see if you get the glass- bottom boat.
The 2nd island is floating 'restaurant' and fish farm where they keep you there for 3 hrs, having to endure awful food and 'karaoke' on the boat. Then 4 boats come together and you can dive off the top row into the pool beneath, all to cheesy vietnamese music. And not a drop of booze in sight!
The 3rd island is a resort where you again pay to get on it, to sit by the beach until you can leave again.
The 4th island is the aquarium, you gotta check this place out! Lost in time, hard to tell if this is in development or has been abandoned.
The guide speaks 90% of the tour in Vietnamese. The bus to and from the boat didn't have or didn't want to use the a/c. We were overjoyed to reach our hotel that evening!

Excellent advice. The first time I did one I got ripped off by Sunrise Hotel. That was ten years ago when they had a rip off GM. Back then I paid $75 for their tour with their guide. In his new position the now ex GM still has rip off prices. A leopard certainly doesn't change its spots.
he 1st island they take you to is like a leper colony you nailed it!
The coral is so polluted and bleached, there is little to see if you get the glass- bottom boat. They have no concept of environmental protection whatsoever. I saw one 3 inch grey fish when I went on the tour.
cheesy vietnamese music woeful is a word that comes to mind.
The 4th island is the aquarium "aquarium" is really stretching the imagination-it is the fishy world's biggest joke! A group of 10 year olds could construct something miles better!
We were overjoyed to reach our hotel that evening! THAT! is the highlight of the Nha trang 4 isalnd "tour"! The relief of being away from all the touting and hands out for cash in this classic tourist trap. Now the glossy new brochures around town make it look fantastic. It's pure marketing BS.

2Did the same trip with my family. We paid US$6 each. For the money, the food was fair.
My brother and the kids had never been to Asia before so they thoroughly enjoyed the snorkeling. For me it wasn't the best - but then it's Vietnam and not renowned for it's diving. The masks were rubbish, but we had swimming goggles with us so it didn't matter.
Personally we found that Karaoke amusing and the booze we were served was Dalat Rose - in the sea on a ring and with a splash of seawater it tasted better.
So for US$6 I don't think we could really complain. Agree, not everyone's choice but for US$6!?!?!

3@#2 Vietnam will never be a diving or snorkeling destination while they do dynamite "fishing" and blow up reefs and scare the fish away.
@#2 OP's point isn't the money. It's the absolute abuse of your personal time by presenting glossy brochures of something fantastic when in fact it's absolute cr*p!

6#3 I understood the point. Just one persons opinion may differ to others. And if you know what you're getting into for $6 it's not a bad deal.
Been lucky enough to dive around a lot of the world and although the diving isn't brilliant, for someone that hasn't snorkelled in warm waters (never seen a Walkman (type of stone fish), anenonyme fish, trigger fish, cleaner wrasse interacting with other fish and more... well, it's worth the snorkeling trip.

11@#10 at odd times it can get a tad choppy. The trip I went on with Sunrise (that I paid $75 for) we only saw two islands close in because the guys were scared to go any further-there wasn't even a storm. I didn't mind too much because 10 minutes from shore the engine of the boat packed up.
The ex GM of Sunrise is back in Nha trang as GM of another resort. Recently he charged a familyof 4 $275 to go on the four island tour. They ended up with a bad taste in their mouth because they were ripped off by this conman.
He recently charged 3 kids $150 to do about an hours dive practice in the resort pool. The instructer cannot issue a Padi license. They then went into town and found a licensed Padi company and paid less than $150 in total for the three of them to go on a dive cruise to an island, do some diving , and have a lunch on board, and a lesson.
