Daily budget in Sofia, BulgariaHi,
I'll be going to Sofia for one week at the end of July for the Deaflympics. I've already booked and paid for the hostel and Deaflympics games. I'm wondering how much should I budget per day for foods and beer (lots of them haha!)? I heard Sofia is dirt cheap, but others have told me that it is a very expensive city.
Would $250 (around 300 Euro) be enough for one week?
Many thanks :)

1First $250 is not 300 euro it is about 230 euros. You can get by relatively cheaply in Sofia I would say what you have there is going to be bare minimum. I personally would double it. There have been several threads over on tripadvisor about side trips too, I would recommend getting out of sofia. Two good choices are Rila Monestary and Koprivshtitsa.

2I didn't find Sofia to be expensive - depends what you are doing. Followed my LP and Rough Guide for ideas where to eat to my budget - accommodation was the most costly of anything , though was happy with the place I ended up at, and you say you have yours booked already.
The hotel I stayed at was able to arrange an okay price for a rental car and I headed out of town after 2 nights in Sofia.
totally enjoyed Sofia and Bulgaria in general - loved Rila and the drive to get there.

3Any capital city like Sofia CAN be expensive. There are high-end nightclub, expensive restaurants, and many diversions to keep you spending your money. If, however, you are sticking to pubs and the smaller restaurants where non-rich locals hang out, you'll find Sofia to be quite inexpensive.
Your budget of $250, which I assume is U.S. dollars, is worth about 190 euros. That is 27 euros a day for spending money. Definitely possible, but if you are doing side trips, eating at expensive restaurants, going to nightclubs, etc., that money will go fast. Let me put it that way, I almost certainly would not spend 27 euros a day in spending money in Sofia on a typical day.

Thank you all for your replies. Sorry, I meant £250, not dollars. I will have roughly 40 euros per day.
I will pay a wee visit to Rila and Koprivshtits if I have enough time.
Thanks for your help and recommendations. :)
