Sardinia in August -- Book ahead?Hi Fellow travellers!
My girlfriend and myself is planning a vacation in Sardinia in the beginning of August. We will rent a car for the entire duration to be mobile, and be able to go wherever pleases us. I've done vacation on mainland Italy before, where we never booked any accommodation ahead, but booked through calling hotels the same day of arrival, or booking through the local tourist information when we arrived. This has worked very well before, and gave us a lot of flexibilty! However, this was on the mainland, and typically in June/July.
Now that we are going to Sardinia, and in August, which is the holiday month for the italians, I am a bit insecure whether we should follow the same approach, or book everything ahead. Typically, we are not after resort type of places, more small family run B&B/hotels in the centro stroico etc.
Most likely, we will head down the west cost i would believe.
Does anyone have any experience on this matter, travelling Sardinia in August?
Thanks for all the help guys!

1If you have a look at http://www.booking.com/, you will see that about 3 to 5 per cent of all Sardinian hotels bookable through the web have still free rooms in August. Neither the best nor the cheapest one's of course.
