Bali in second half of AugustHi, I've not been backpacking to Bali for nearly 20 years and this year I'm finally going back.. with the kids (10 & 14).
I'm aware that Bali has become more developed but not sure in what other ways it's changed and how much my local knowledge will still apply.
I only have flights booked at the moment and we will be heading around randomly checking into different losmen.
What I'm not sure is if the accommodation is still so easily accessible on the spur of the moment. Not been in August before (April and September previously) so not sure whether free rooms disappear at this time?
I used to pay between 5000Rp and 15000Rp per night for rooms with fan (between £1.50 and £5). Sure these numbers will have changed but wanted to give an idea of what level of accommodation I was happy with before.
Also want to go to the Gilis for a few days.
Any advice or more recent intel on accommodation in August would be much appreciated.

1I don't think you'll have any trouble finding rooms, but obviously prices will have changed.
Last time I was there (4 years ago) I paid about $17 for a double room in Candidasa with fan, private bathroom and breakfast. Maybe the sort of thing you are after?
It was pretty easy to find a room, in fact there were touts on the street offering cheap rooms, which was how I got his one. That was in early September, but I've also been in August and not had a problem.

3I suppose some parts will have changed dramatically, a lot of Bali is now overdeveloped and in my opinion has become a cheap 'Benidorm' for Australians. There are still nice spots though and there are still bargains to be had. I paid £11 GBP a night in a fantastic homestay in Ubud last summer for example (right near Monkey Forest Road). It is SO easy to walk around and find a room.
