Travel partners in Madagascar in August/September?Hey everyone,
(I posted this message in the Madagascar forum but figured I would post here as well just in case. I realize this is pretty long so I've bolded the important bits).
My girlfriend and I will be embarking on a month-long trip to Madagascar from August 20 - September 17. We have looked around at a number of different tours, but have decided that due to the high expense and feasibility of exploring the country independently (i.e. via taxi-brousse, owner/driver and flight) that we will give it a go on our own. We've travelled quite extensively in other countries including a month in Mongolia, which was among one of the best we've done.
For that trip, it was also just the two of us, but we reached out to the TT community to try and find some travel partners to not save on the costs but to have some more friends while travelling around the country, and it worked out perfectly!
Fast forward 5 years and we'd now like to accomplish the same thing in Madagascar! We have a rough idea of where we want to go (Tana-Antsirabe-Ranomafana-Andringitra-Isalo-Ifaty-Toliara-Tsingy de Bemaraha-Andasibe-Maroantsetra-Masoala-Ste. Marie-Diego Suarez+Area), but nothing is set it stone and we are pretty flexible. We imagine most of our "definite" place will be similar to yours as well. That list is also probably a bit aggressive considering the time we have, so we'll probably end up cutting something out.
Anyway, we are hoping to find someone to join up with us for some or all of the trip. Particularly from Tana-Toliara we will likely get an owner/driver and probably to Masoala as well.
About us: We will both be 28 and have been together for over 7 years, lived in Korea for a year teaching English and travelled extensively around east Asia thereafter. Also travelled around South America (including the amazing Galapagos!) and other smaller trips around North America. I've also done a lot of travel independently. I speak French decently, so getting around the main parts of Mada shouldn't be a problem (at least when it comes to language). Our interests are wildlife/nature viewing, hiking (nothing crazy though), scuba diving if possible, and just getting to know the diverse people and cultures around Madagascar (while the nature in Mongolia was nothing short of spectacular, some of our fondest memories are of meeting the locals and just playing with the children).
Obviously since TT has taken away the ability to private message people it makes getting in touch a bit more difficult, but if anyone is at all interested just reply on this forum and I will figure out a way (probably will just make a new email that I don't care about publicizing).
Hope to hear from you soon!
