Driving from NYC to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and back in 4 daysHow long is the drive from New York to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia? Need to know if it's possible to leave tomorrow July 4th and come back by Sunday July 7th. Planning to drive the Cabot Trail Saturday morning and then return. I know Google Maps says 16 hours but what is the actual drive time counting an overnight stop?

What is your actual question? 16 hours sounds like a reasonable guess to me--I've done it a couple of times from the Boston area. "Counting an overnight stop" is up to you: for how long do you wish to stop?
You're going to do nothing but drive drive drive for four days. If that sounds appealing (and if the weather forecast looks good for Cape Breton), by all means have a blast.
Hope that's helpful.

3Montreal to the Causeway: 17 hrs.
Why are you trying to do this in this time? Seems kind of pointless. The Cabot Trail is gorgeous but why do it on the run? Getting to and returning from CB is also a wonderful trip. Why miss it all? Sounds like you're checking off a sort of 'life list" which is ultimately meaningless if done this way, IMO.

4Having done the drive to Cape Breton from Ottawa dozens of times, my best advice is to plan for Montreal traffic (if you will be anywhere near the city).
The longest part of the drive for me was through New Brunswick. While a lot of work was done to widen the highway, there are still a lot of two lane roads.
Going around the Cabot Trail itself can take several hours at best, a full day at "worst" (though some people will debate what is best and what is worst). The road is paved, but it is narrow, two lanes, and twisty and turny. And everyone else is driving very slowly!
From Ottawa, we can make it Fredericton in about 12 hours - and that is speeding through Quebec! Our best time was in about 10/5 hours
