I am hoping to travel to India in late October- mid November however my companion has cancelled on me last minute. I cannot go in a tour because the places I've mapped out are not in their repertoire. I'm looking for a companion to accompany me to Delhi, Agra, Chandigarh and Solan. If anybody knows of a way to help me in this situation please contact me ASAP.

4I don't quite see why you should not be able to go in a tour - there are so many tour operators who can make you a tour in exactly the way that you like to those destinations you would like to go to... If you would like to go with one which is close to my heart, you can have a look here: http://www.jaisiyaram.com/journeys.htm
But you can find a lot other tour operators, too!
And even if you don't want to go with a tour, there will be lots of people ready to join you in that time. You may want to be a bit flexible though, so others can visit the places that they wanted to see, too. Take a budget hotel recommended by the lonely planet book and you will find many people at that time of the year.
- and that time of the year means October-November as it is the high season :)

5No need to consider any tour operator.
Get a decent guidebook, maybe used one(s) from Amazon but one should be new.
October is not quite the height of the season which tends to be Jan/Feb.
You have plenty of time - even send a letter to your local newspaper - I did this 10 years back and got over a dozen replies - the local paper even did a halfpage article on me together with a photo.
The route you wish to take is simple.
I do get criticised for recommending PaharGanj as the location for the first couple of nites in Delhi for a first time traveller - its about the only location where you are guaranteed to mix with the traveller crowd and you are sure to find others there with whom you may wish to link up or just swap notes.
You cannot even guess the suitability/integrity of a companion on this page..

6Yes I'm a young female hoping to go to India but I've heard many stories and I want to be safe. I'll check that out thank you

7Is there particular reason to go to Chandigarh and solan?
If you are concerned with safety, I would stick with better known tourist places, both of those aren't common places for tourists.
There are cheapish tours available, check out intrepid travel, and tucan travel, both specialise in western, budget tours, and you will be with people of a similar age.
Otherwise, I would stick with better known places, don't travel around much at night by yourself, and lock your hotel door from the inside.

10Delhi is for party poopers , Agra is for Taj, Chandigarh and Solan ????...There is not a lot to do unless you are planning to meet your friends.
If it is possible, plan to go to Jaipur/Pushkar or Jaisalmer because I'm sure you will not regret to see those places. I can accompany you for a road trip to Agra from Delhi, but I am also debating to hit the beaches of Goa around November.
