Airfare from NairobiI'm wondering if I should wait if I should wait until I get to Kenya to buy a ticket from Nairobi to Addis Ababa. The prices I see on the internet here in the USA seem kind of expensive. The plan is to arrive in Kenya w/ an overland trip from Tanzania and points south this September, then spend 10 days or so exploring the Rift valley area. Then I want to fly to Ethiopia, and want a cheap air connection. Can I book a cheap air ticket for this route from elsewhere in Africa, like Malawi or Tanzania? Or is this just a route where there are no cheap airfares?

2Unfortunately yes NBI to ADD is a route with no budget flights.....
Only Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways do it as far as I know...and I think if you go on their websites prices will be similar and not cheap.
If you are in the USA it may be worth phoning Ethiopians main office to see what they can offer as a package....

3You won't find anything cheap from Malawi, that's for sure. Best price is probably Nairobi, one way journey in September going for 130 euros as I find it now on Ethiopian or Kenyan airways (2 euros difference). If you're going to buy a ticket in Dar, have a look at flights from Zanzibar as well, as they are cheaper sometimes.

5I checked out the airfare again, and jillie is right $167, or euro 130. This is much better than the $300-400 (don't remember exactly) I saw when I checked the first time. But I'm wondering, has anyone tried to book airfare on this route locally in Kenya, 10 days to 2 weeks before departure? That would be hugely preferable, in order to improve flexibility.
