Marrakech to ouarzazate overnight with 2kidsWe want to do a trip to Ouarzazate from Marrakech. since the drive to Ouarzazate is quite long, we were thinking of staying for one night and coming back the following day. We would like to go to Ait Ben Haddou from Ouarzazate. Can someone suggest us a good place to stay (preferably a riad that could accommodate us all) in or near Ouarzazate for one night? Also, any suggestions for a local driver speaking good English, (where does driver stay overnight? Do we pay for him also?)

1Riads are traditional houses organised around an atrium/garden and many of these have been converted into boutique hotels. Ouarzazate is fairly modern built around a French Foreign Legion outpost and thus lacks riads, the accommodation options there being mainly modern hotels.
I'd suggest you travel from Marrakech to Ouarzazate by the main road which takes up to five hours, and do something in Ouarzazate (e.g. visit one of the film studios), then head for Ait Benhaddou and stop overnight in one of the 40 or more choices there. Great early morning photography, then head north on the side road that Ait Benhaddou is already on, travelling alongside the Ounila River then visit the kasbah of Telouet on the way back.

I travelled around Morrocco last year with my daughter who was 4 then. Just us two. It was a great experience, tiring at times but fantastic.
I would definately recommend visiting the atlas mountains. We went to Imlil. To get here you take a petit taxi, a grand taxi and a bus.
Other great places were Taghazout, Essaouaira, El Jadida..
Ive set up a page that gives advice and blogs about my travels with my daughter. Please visit to ask for advice.
