Bali/Lombok first-timer and surfing-novice has a couple of questionsHey everyone,
I'll be going to Indonesia this autumn for the first time. After a few days on Java I'll be arriving in DPS in the middle of September. I got most of my itinerary worked out but I've still got a couple of questions that I'd like to ask you.
I really want to learn how to surf and will be travelling with two friends who've already spent a couple of hours on the board. As far as I understand the best place to go as a novice is Kuta beach, right? Since I imagine the town itself kinda like Khao San Rd x 100 I thought we could spent the nights someplace else as we're looking for a place with a bit more of a backpacker vibe. So here is my question: is it possible to stay on a nice beach on the Bukit Peninsular (Balangan, Bingin) and go to Kuta for the surf by motorcycle every day? Or is the traffic too difficult to manage/the distance too far?
My next question is about the beaches in east Bali. I was looking for a mellow backpacker place with a nice beach and good diving-opportunities and was thinking about Padangbai or Amed. Which one do you prefer and why? We will later on head towards Nusa Lembongan but would like to make our advanced courses first.
Is it possible to dive the USS-Liberty-Wreck from Pandangbai or do I have to go to Tulamben?
We will be on Lombok in early November. Is it still possible to hike Gunung Rinjani (as it is the beginning of the rainy season)?
Apart from Gunung Rinjani: are there any Must-Sees you'd recommend? I heard Kuta (Lombok) is quite nice but I think we've seen enough beaches by then. ;)
Thanks for your time!
Greetings from Germany,
