What's going on in India ?I am watching the Number 1 India News Channel.
All the News are Very Bad :
Man-made disaster in Kedarnath
Delhi airport flooding
Building collapses in Mumbai
Building collapse in Delhi
R.pes almost everywhere in India
Corruption stories about politicians, civil servants and police
Is there anything to rejoice happening or India is getting worse ?

6That news report was bad, it is not true that only bad news is reported by responsible news channels - India needs reform in almost every sphere of its existance and virtually nothing has happened for many years to address those basic problems.
It is therefore healthy that programs can report these items - sadly though they have no effect because the basic causes are not addressed by politicians as it's against their personal interests.
There has been a lot of discussion comparing India to China - the new govt in China is attacking problems of corruption, the latest being that all civil servants/politicians must give up their privelege cards given by entrepreneurs on pain of massive punishment - this is causing bankruptcy in several quarters such as golf clubs as these cards can be used frequently for payments of other goods and services.
I am saddened by the blindness of the new middle classes to the social stuctural problems, taking any criticism from outsiders as maliciousness - it is not. This problem is also prevalent in the major universities, my brother-in-law spent a semester last year as visiting professor (British style prof - not an American uni lecturer) and was saddened by the lack of concern of the lower orders by his students - all denying the problem.

13#10.............. Every Indian I know also finds rape, corruption, inneffective governance and shoddy engineering unacceptable. Which India do you live in where these are believed to just be crazy western ideas.
Very emotive language, but I said nothing of the sort. My point is simply that you cannot impose western ideals onto eastern culture. You say that ''every Indian you know'' finds the status quo unacceptable, untill they need a seat on a fully booked train, when they will happily slip the tt a few Rps to get them on, or they commit some minor traffic infringement and pay the cop to look the other way, or some local bureaucratic problem that with a few rps to the right official is quickly resolved, ah they will say, but that is not corruption, that is ''bakshees'' and that is how things get done in India !
And I wonder how your new found 'nouveaux middle class'' liberal friends would react should their daughter arrive home one day and announce her intention to marry a dalit ! Do you honestly believe that ''every Indian you know'' would embrace their future son-in-law into the bosom of their family ?
Simply put, India is India, it is not Great Britain or America, and I am not saying that anything is right or wrong, I am merely saying that is how it is !

In decades I never paid a single baksheesh. Nor did the founder of Infosys
Every Indian I know " would embrace a dalit as their future son-in-law into the bosom of their family"
if he is Laureate of IIT or AIIMS.
