Omalo-Shatili or the other way?

Omalo-Shatili or the other way?Hello!
Did anyone do the Omalo Shatili trek recently? I found a very detailed description (in french) about the trekking from 2007. The guy who was alone was sometimes struggling with orientation and because of some wild rivers he was recommended not to go alone. He took a guide and than he almost couldn't continue because the guide did not have a passport and the soldiers wouldn't let him pass... Are there still a lot of military camps and is this still an issue?
Well, I'm not planning to go alone, but we're going with some girls ( we have a lot of trekking experience but mostly on quite well marked paths) so we were wondering -as we know the trek is so popular- if in 6 years time the trekking is marked (or is it still so heavy to orientate?). Last year we did Khasbegui-Shatili and it was well marked (we even met the guys marking the tracks). Of course we'll take the geoland maps, but last year we noticed that some more remote routes between Shatili and Mutso were not existing anymore and we got confused by the shepherds paths...
We read as well that it is adviced to take a rope on the trekking in case the river is still heavy. Is it necessary?
What is the best: Omalo-Shatili or Shatili-Omalo or doesn't it matter?
Thanks a lot!
