Unable to buy Aeroexpress tix onlineHello all:
Is anyone else having trouble buying Aeroexpress tickets online? Every time I go through the entire process, only to get a "Payment failed due to technical difficulties" message. Very frustrating. I've used the card to buy tix for the Bolshoi, so relatively certain the problem is not on this end.
So far the Bolshoi website is the only one I haven't had a problem with.......

5I did buy those tickets from machines, and if I remember correctly with a US debit visa. When you get to the airport, you can easily buy them from a machine, they are touch screen and modern. Just buy round trip so you don't have to waste time on your return trip.
Also, do NOT throw the ticket away until you exit the station. You will need to scan in order to exit.

6I used Mastercard twice last week for the AeroExpress return trip Domodevko airport/Paveletsky terminus without any difficulties. Very straightforward process, with English as an on-screen option. 320 roubles each way, saves trying to buy wadloads of currency beforehand.
I was intrigued that many Russian travellers wrapped hardcased suitcases and backpacks in plastic, and a wrapping service was offered in the departure lounge. None-the-wiser whether it was because:
a. baggage gets damaged in transit (unlikely as practice only happens in Russia)
b. precaution against pilfereage by staff at Russian airports
c. precaution against unsuspecting carriage of drugs or explosives (country still in throes of terrorism precautions)
d. none of the above
PS I'm not an USAian, but from Oz.

9Seems a commercial decision of each venue's operator, rather than a downer on USA and USAians.
I have a similar problem with AMEX. Whilst accepted surprisingly widely in Russia, AMEX has only a tentative grasp in many Aussie markets, and struggles outside traditional areas that are tourism-related. Some operators absorb the AMEX merchant fee, others have no qualms about passing it on to the consumer. Go figure!

12RE credit cards.
AMEX charges a high fee for merchants, which is why it is not popular with them. In Russia profit traditionally profit margins are high, so they would rather accept it than lose a high paying potential customer.
In many countries, even in Europe, there are difficulties with using US credit cards. The reason being is that they rarely have security chips (mine don't) that is required in many, probably most, ATM's for the card to be accepted.
