Svaneti or Tushety for a week?Hello all-
I have read many of the posts regarding trekking and while they are helpful I would like to put forth a very specific question to get feedback on, as I am sure everybody will have a slightly different view:
I will be with my son for one week in mid-August in which we want to spend the most time trekking in a beautiful surrounding and limit the amount of long, tiring travel time- to the extent possible. We will have one week in total, and I assume that we will need probably 2 days for transport there and back?
We love the idea of homestay in villages, prefer to to it on our own, although will consider guides if necessary and price is reasonable.
We would like it to be a 4-5 day continuous trek rather than day hiking. Difficulty is not a problem although we are looking to trek and not professional climbing.
Svaneti or Tushety? We will be leaving and returning from one of these destinations from Tbilisi aiport.
With this info in mind would very much appreciate your opinions and suggestions. Thanks!

1. for 4-5 days trek Mestia-Ushguli trek its best one ( in Svaneti ) along this trek u can stay in home stays for each night.
( u can order meal too ... so u can trek with light backpacks )
2. very popular Shatili - Omalo trek (khevsureti-tusheti) its for 6-8 days and more difficult than Ushguli trek . also half of the route u should overnight in tents ( with out village )
I am agree with nopasaran its two best trekking regions ... Svaneti is more beautiful ( like painted ) but Tusheti is more mysterious . for me )))
oh what about fly to Mestia ... its never guaranteed .. might be cancel every moment

5Last summer it was running (and I think it will still be like this, because they were building a lot of touristic facilities in Mestia). But I've heard that the flights get cancelled quite often when the weather is bad, but I just know it from other travellers (whose flight got cancelled)... They had to take the bus and train to get on time back at the airport of Tblisi...

6Thanks all- if we want to spend 5 days trekking in the Svaneti area, can we do the Ushguli trek 4 days and back to Mestia for another day hike or can the Ushguli trek be extended to 5 days?
Another question: I see that the flights from Tbilisi to Mestia are very erratic and unclear to everybody- is there some contac number or place to check and see if it can be booked? Otherwise, if not flight is available, are we still looking at an overnight train of about 7 hours? Should that be booked for a 19 August date?
