mobile USB modems in Cuscoi have a job that allows me to be located anywhere -- as long as i have a reasonably fast and stable internet connection. i'm currently in guatemala, but considering relocating to cusco for a year. what's the internet situation in cusco nowadays? i find the easiest internet solution in most countries is to get a mobile USB modem (dongle), and i saw that peru offers this service via Claro. is it easy to get a USB modem in peru, or can it be problematic contract-wise if you're not a peruvian citizen?
and do the USB modems get good speeds in cusco? by "good" speeds, i mean fast enough to video skype, about 3Mbs download / 1Mbs upload. if you think a claro USB modem isn't a good solution for good internet, can you point me to an alternative? thanks for you help! cheers, marcos

1Peru has pretty good internet, although I can't speak for USB dongle. If you are staying for an extended time you should look at renting an apartment with included wifi or buy a contract yourself. Speeds are generally pretty quick all things considered, no doubt much better than dongle.
I'm using a USB dongle in Bolivia at the moment and it's terrible. However Peru is miles ahead of Bolivia for internet so there might be some decent USB connections out there. Signing up for a prepaid SIM card for a cel phone was very easy for me in Peru, didn't even give ID. I've never signed up for a USB modem connection in Peru although my experience here in Bolivia as a non resident was very easy too.
