5Why do people who have never been somewhere feel the need to comment?
Using the cabs that are available at the airport is perfectly safe, they are used to night arrivals. However for financial reasons I would recommend spending the night in San Salvador and then going to Sochitito the next day, easy and cheap on a bus. This will save you a good deal of cash! Hotels and food are cheap in San Salvador and the bus system is easy to navigate!

7Someone posted a while back, they saw someone shot with a firearm while transiting San Salvador. I've been through there, and found it no more or less scary than any other CA big city. Just be ready to eat dirt, in the event of gunfire. And for the sake of others who might not make the connection, you might shout "he's got a gun!"

8You can also try to contact "El Gringo" in Suchitoto, for pick up. His wife makes very tasty pupusas! Disregard #1. There is no place nearby the Airport to stay, apart from (which is a nice, but expensiverer hotel). Go to San Salvador, or to Suchitoto directly.
