Anyways, pray tell, in which ways is UK theatre different from continental European theatre? Having seen a fair number of plays in various European countries, including the UK, I fail to see how it's different.

16Well Mainland European Theatre focuses more on the mise en scene (how it looks on stage) and there is A LOT more influence on Physical Theatre (for example the Jaque le coq school in France). English Theatre is influenced more by the meaning of the words and really centres around that - it is also very influenced by American Theatre which is very clean cut, scene changes are a lot crisper, its an artistic choice whether or not the actors/scenery changes are seen or not etc.

Thanks for your explanation. I don;t necessarily agree with you but i am not an expert so you probably know better than i do. At the same time there is a bit of British exceptionalism about your statement- the view that Britain is so different from (continental) Europe, without being able to see that the differences within continental Europe are just as big, if not bigger.
