Travel by boat from China to ThailandDoes anybody know if there is presently boat service between China and Thailand, specifically from Jinghong to Chiang Saen by Speedboat.
I read of a company called Golden Peacock Shipping but cannot find any information.
Do you know of any other options? I will be in Southern China and want to arrive in Thailand, but I don't have a LOT of time...2-3 days would be OK...and I'm looking to do it on a budget.

2You could take the ferry -- that still counts as a boat, right? There's a ferry from Jinghong, in Yunnan, at least a far south at Vientiene, and you take a train to Bangkok.
You could take the train through Vietnam as far as HCMC, and buses the rest of the way. It would be fairly cheap, but at least four days.

A friend of mine traveled by boat from Chiang Saen to China recently. At that time (early this year) there were no regular passenger ferries on the year. It was only possible to make this trip by hitching on cargo boats. My friend is Chinese; I'm not sure if the authorities will allow foreign nationals to travel on the cargo boats. You could try asking around in Jinghong. My friend's boat didn't take her to Jinghong, but rather to a different port south of Jinghong, from where she had to catch a bus to Jinghong. I didn't see much in the way of barges which looked like they were heading to Thailand when I was in Jinghong; I think the main port for them might be a different town in China further down the river. I'll look up the name of it if you're interested.
It's likely to be less hassle (and cheaper) to travel overland through Laos. You can easily make Jinghong-Thailand in two days this way, with an overnight stop in Luang Namtha. There is a direct bus every day from Jinghong to Luang Namtha, and about 3 or 4 buses a day from Luang Namtha to Huay Xai, on the Thai border.
