Weather in São Tomé e Principe during the european winterHi !
I plan to go to STP during the next european winter. February is the worst here in Germany and I´d like to go to STP at this time. Has anybody been there in february ? What´s about the weather at this time in STP ? It is the rainy season in STP, but what does that mean ? Does it rain for days with almost no interruption or is it all comming down within about one hour, with sun before and after it ? If february is bad, which month during the european winter is the best ?
Thanks in advance for your replies !

1In Sao Tome there's little point in worrying about the weather. Even during the rainy season, there's little rain usually around lunchtime. The inner parts of the islands, especially higher in the clouds do get more rain. That sometimes makes it special too. Basically it's a great destination, always warm (temperatures are the same all year round) and there's something to do regardless of the weather: you can do beaches on the coast when the inland is wet, then move inlands at all other times, you can dive regardless of the rain. But in all that, there's really limited rain. Other than the lunchtime quick showers, I really don't remember the days when it was pouring. Not in the city, at least. Sao Tome - I would always very strongly advise. If you need additional tips and ideas, pls. get in touch. :)

2Thanks a lot Coby !
Yes, I´d like to ask some more questions.
I read some travelreports recently. All these authors habe been around with rented cars and were hosting in expensive hotels (about 50 Euros per night and even more). Is there any form of budged tourism in STP. I´d like to go around with public transport and sleep in places that do not charge much more than about 10 Euros per night. Is that realistic ? Are there cheap hotels where the locals go ?
And whats about Ilheu das Rolas ? I heard that there is only one luxury hotel that charges about 150 Euros per night.
The question, if there is a budget tourism is important for me to decide if I go at all.
Thanks for replies in advance.

3(This is from my regular profile... I had some problems logging in the last time.)
I see quite a few posts about the cheaper accommodation. The top three hotels in Sao Tome (Pestana, Omali and Pestana's Miramar) are all on the expensive end. There are a few smaller hotels, but to be honest I never checked out the rooms inside. There are a couple of rocas where you can get cheaper accommodation (see the forum on STP). Ilha das Rolas is indeed very expensive and there's an accommodation monopoly. I never went there. The southern most beach is practically at the equator and unless you must take a photo of that equator line, it's not necessarily worth it going there.
Renting a car is definitely the cheapest way to go around the island. If you negotiate the price well, it may cost you as little as EUR 35 for a 4WD, a rather small one, but sufficient for all you need. I've been renting it from the same guy every time I go there, and I can send you his details if you want.
So, the bummer is getting there - not cheap. The accommodation will require compromising price/quality and once you're over that - there's nothing standing between you and paradise!

4Dodododo, check here, there you can find maybe some cheaper accommodation - http://www.navetur-equatour.st/accomodation.php
It is right, on Ilheu das Rolas, there is only Pestana, expensive it is. But, if you manage it, there maybe you can find some room with locals? Or sleep under stars :)
Otherwise, the car is best of course, there are so much to see and not every where you can come with the bus or shared taxi, So if you can drive, rent it. It is worth.
And as Boris write, I am completely agree :) = " there's nothing standing between you and paradise!"
I come back again one day!
