Itineary help for 4 weeks in EcuadorHi,
we are going to Ecuador at the end of May for 4 weeks. The facts are: After arriving in Quito (Saturday night) we have 15 days, than we go for a 8 days boat cruise and thank we have still 5 days left, on the the 6 th days we have to take our internat. flight.
Can you please help me with our itinerary to optimze our time.
We could fly from Quito or from Guayaquil to Gala.
We are arriving on a Saturday. We really want to see the famous markte on Thursday in Saquisilli and in Sigchos is a nice market on Monday.
Thats the reason why I thought to go first south of Quito, come back to Quito, go north of Quito and than take the flight to Gala. It would be of course more efficient to fly to Gala from Guayaquil, but I don`t know how to plan it.
Here is the itinerary with questions:
First we would stay 1 day in Quito. We are very intereseting to trekk parts or the whole Quilatoa Loop, visit the Cotopaxi NP, trekk at Chimborazo and Sangay. I want try to find out which origin would be the best to do trekks around. Should we take a tour from Quito directly to Cotopaxi or first go to Latacunga and go from there to Cotopaxi and to the Quilatoa Loop ? Would you recommend to stay directly in the Cotopaxi NP or stay in Latacunga ? Which trekks would you suggest in the Cotopaxi NP ? Where is the best origin or orgenize (guide, transport, ) trekks in the Sangay and Chimborazo area ? Banos or Riobamaba ?
Is it worth to go after Banos/Riobamba to Cuenca and the Cajas NP ? I know Cuenca is a beautiul colonial city. But for us it is not really necessary to see more colonial citys after Quito. The question is if is worth to visit the Cajas NP ?
If we go to Cuenca it would be more efficient to take a bus to Guay and take the flight to Quito.
But I thougth after this we go back to Quito. In only 4 hours by bus from Banos or Riobamaba or take a flight from Cuenca.
Arriving in Quito go north to Mindo and Otavalo. Should we overnight there or just do day tripps from Quito. We are very interesting to see the Caymbe, too and do a trekk around perhaps.
Is there a possibility to go from Mindo to Otavalo?
See Quito inbetween the south and north of Ecuador, fly to Gala, return and go to the Amazon.
What are your suggestions ?
Thank you very much

I think you've exhausted the reserves of many Thorn Tree posters - at least, you've exhausted mine! If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend you purchase a guidebook to Ecuador, there are several editions on the market including Lonely Planet and Moon, both of which I've successfully used. There is loads of transport information there to help you with planning.
The problem is, you've posted lots of questions, which people (including me) have answered, before posting another thread a short time later asking the same questions again as if you haven't read what people have taken the time and effort to write. I consider myself a very patient person, but even I thought "not another question on the Quilotoa Loop!". And after all the responses, you posted another thread saying you weren't sure if you wanted to go to Quilotoa or Papallacta!
Good luck with your planning - a guide book will come in very useful!!
Enjoy your trip.

2One day in Quito is too little in my opinion, so on your way to and from the Galapagos Islands you could stay another day or two. On the other hand you mention lots of places you want to visit, and with 8 days in Galapagos Islands you have less than three weeks left for the highlands.
I prefer Quito over Cuenca, but I know many people think the opposite. When I visited Cuenca I went on an organized daytrip to Cajas National Park. We had some nice walks and the landscape was stunning and it was sunny and clear. However, we were lucky with the weather as it had been raining and unclear every day for two weeks prior to our visit.

3I too prefer Quito to Cuenca..... I spend a few days there years ago and felt that was enough.... In other words it's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there or spend more than a week there....
In Quito don't forget to visit the Guayasamin Gallery and the house he lived in. We went there on a Sunday and it was free to get into both. They are next door to each other now. It was very special to us as his last wife is related to my partner's family and I know his daughter.
